The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Pits Woody and Buzz Versus a Digital Device

It has been 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story film debuted, establishing the animation giant as a major film company and bringing viewers to iconic characters like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, offering a glimpse into the plot but keeping viewers wondering how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys

The preview shows the young girl — who received the toy collection when he left for college — receiving a latest plaything, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie gets her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.

Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys seem to view it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it probably is.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

One thing the trailer avoids is why Woody is back with his friends in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), traveling with a carnival and helping giveaway items locate loving owners.

Surely, Pixar will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him show up in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is a little strange, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And where is the stuntman toy (the star)?

Connections from the Last Installment

At the very least, some aspects are carrying over from the earlier movie. The last thing Woody did before departing for his new life was pass his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), entrusting her in charge of the toy domain. The clip shows the insignia pinned to her shirt.

It is hoped she is still the key figure among the toys.

Toy Story 5 debuts on the scheduled date.
